Our New Addition

Today we added a new member into our family!
I was rooting for a blue one, but Lilly insisted on this red one. (That is, after we turned down her initial request for a turtle--those things live FOREVER!) Drew suggested a few names, and Lilly picked Charlie. I think it suits him, plus it sounds really really cute when she says it.

We think Charlie the Fish is going to be a great first pet. He's just the right fit for our little home (and budget), and I'm happy to have a betta back in the bowl that has been home to both of my two prior betta fish, Red and Miro (Smirnoff), may they rest in peace.

I'm going to enjoy the ease of fish ownership while I can, because judging by today's pet store visit, Lilly's second pet is going to be something from the reptile family. While she was super excited to look at all the animals, the only ones she was completely at ease with were the scaly ones. Apparently anything with fur is not to be trusted, but spiders and snakes? Totally fine.** The good news is that this works out perfectly with my fur allergy and rodent phobia. Plus I think Drew's been missing his old pet snake. . . but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Welcome to the family, Charlie!

**Update on 1/15, Went to the pet store to pick up a moss ball and "treats" (bloodworms) for Charlie, and Lilly said she would rather have a guinea pig than a snake. Wahoo!

  1. After seeing these photos and the ones from the zoo, Eric spent 1/2 an hour finding videos on YouTube trying to convince me that we need a pet tarantula. Yeah, that's not gonna happen. I'm glad you opted for a fish as Lilly's first pet! So fun!

    1. Haha. I bet your baby would love a tarantula! Personally, I would take a small snake before a big spider.
