Guess what we've been doing this week. . .
POTTY TRAINING!
It all started exactly one week ago. Drew was heading into a busy week, and our car needed some maintenance, so I resigned myself to house arrest with Lilly until at least Wednesday. In the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, I decided to seize the opportunity to attempt potty training. I didn't really imagine it working, but since all the needed signs and prerequisites had recently lined up (ability to communicate, extended dry periods, awareness of need to void, interest, etc.), I figured it was worth a shot.
Our first day went really well! The second day not so much. And the 3rd day was successful enough to merit continued effort. By Thursday or Friday it had really started to click. She even started waking up dry after naps and in the morning, although she'll still be wearing a pull-up at night for awhile. We started venturing out in public, and she did great, as long as we brought her beloved potty seat along. Our only hang up is that she insists on climbing onto the seat by herself, so I have to squat down in front of the toilet and play the role of Step Stool. Whatever works, right?
Well, yesterday we had no accidents, and today she has been really good at verbalizing when she needs to go, instead of relying on my frequent prompting. As long as I put her in loose clothing, she can (and prefers to) do everything on her own, and she's getting good at remembering to flush ("Bye bye peepee!") and wash her hands.
I'm sure there are still more accidents to come, but for the most part we're done!
It's crazy what a difference a week can make. I can still hardly believe this is happening.
Our pretty girl last Sunday, her last day in diapers:
We got to do a lot of reading and singing and coloring and park playing, too. It was actually really nice to spend more time at home together, instead of running all around town from errand to errand.
But now that we're through, it was totally worth it.
Hurray for being DIAPER-FREE!

Great job Lily! Now what you have to do is fly to Kansas City and teach Oz to go in the potty too!
