Paper Boats

I know this is the fifth post this week, but I blame the new camera. It keeps taking great pictures. Not to mention this weekend was pretty exciting. I'm trying out a new work schedule, so Lilly stayed at our friend's house for 8 hours on Friday while I was at the hospital. I was a little nervous about it at first, this being her first time with a non-parent or grand-parent, but I felt good about it by the time Friday came around and Lilly did great! My friend has two little girls that Lilly loves playing with, so she played and ate and napped, and probably had a better time than if she had stayed at home with me!
The exciting part about this new arrangement is that I'm not working every Saturday, so we get to spend the day as a family. It was wonderful. We went to a 1 year old birthday party and ate way too much chocolate cake. Lilly took a nap to recover from the sugar high while the incessant afternoon rainfall slowly turned our yard into a pond/swamp. That evening we made some colorful paper boats and floated them in our newly acquired lake before sending them down the raging river (street gutter). They sailed valiantly until they met their soggy deaths.
If the day ended there it would have been a success, but there's more! Drew and I got to go out on our first date in months thanks to a pre-arranged date-swap (they watch our kid one night, we watch theirs another night). So after we put Lilly to bed, we drove off to enjoy Flaming Turtle chocolate fondue at the Melting Pot and remember what it feels like to be a party of two. If you can't remember what that feels like, let me tell you, it's awesome.

Lilly tried to protect Drew's shoes, but I don't think it worked.

Check out all that water!!!

  1. This post is beautiful! Your new camera is awesome! That sounds like such a great day -or few days that you had. That's nice she did so well with the babysitter and that you'll have your Saturdays together. Everything looks so nice and green with the rain. What a cute and fun idea to do paper boats!
