Bye Bye Baby

Lilly has seemed on the brink of talking lately. For awhile now, she's had a handful of one syllable words and her beloved signs, but the past couple weeks she has been experimenting a lot more with sound. A couple weeks ago, she learned the word "up" and the sign for please (along with a "psss" sometimes), the first has been very useful for her, the later very useful for me. This week she's been babbling like she really knows what she is saying but isn't articulating it well enough for me to understand, but when I try to get her to repeat words or sounds she just doesn't seem to get it. Well, today she had a big breakthrough!
We were out running errands and a little girl at the first store kept seeing Lilly and yelling "baby! baby!" Lilly found a similar fan at Target, and as his mom pulled him along he called out "bye bye baby, bye bye baby!" As we walked away, Lilly started trying it out herself! It went something like this:

bababebibabybyebyebabybyebyebaby

She seemed very pleased with herself (or maybe I'm just projecting). After that, every time we saw a baby, or a picture of a baby, she would say "ba-by!" She also started waving at everyone we passed and saying "hi." I think this is the most exciting development she's had since she started walking 6 months ago.

And I suppose this means that I'm saying "bye bye baby," too.

Here's a few more miscellaneous pictures I'm going to just squeeze into this post:

With Daddy and Mommy this weekend:

Her favorite place to play:

Her gesture for "I don't know," as in, "Why aren't you in the driver's seat?" "I don't know!"

Checking out the cool new book our friends gave us this weekend.
If you shine a flashlight through it, the pictures project on the ceiling or wall!

  1. Don't grow up Lilly! That is so sweet that she is talking more and more! I am glad she liked Archie's picture on FB, and recognized him as a baby! I can't wait to hear her babbling and talking in only one month!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Well she's gonna beat Oz once again! He's still not talking. Well, I mean not talking with actual words. He says Mama and Dada, he signs and babbles tons. But he's not saying any other words. He's very cautious about it, and only just recently was willing to try and copy sounds I prompt him with. Hopefully his vocabulary will grow soon!
I still call Oz a baby, and he'll be 20 months in a few days. That makes Lily still a baby for sure. Course for us, with Oz most likely our last - he'll be our baby forever!

    1. Funny how that goes. . . the first child can't grow up fast enough and the last can't stay a baby long enough! Maybe by the next reunion they'll both be talking and we'll both be wishing they couldn't. :)
