I know you're probably thinking, "Wow. A misshapen potholder." But it's not just any potholder. It's my first potholder! After many many futile attempts to learn to crochet, I'm finally doing it! Thanks mostly to some friends that are more proactive than I am, I am now part of a monthly learn to crochet group. (Have I mentioned how much I love our new home and all the new friends I've made here? Well, I do.)
It's amazing how much easier it is to get motivated and figure out the confusing world of yarn when you have a group of awesome women to encourage you. I finished work on this practice piece a few days after our first meeting. It was the perfect complement to hours of watching Downton Abbey. I know you're probably thinking, "Wow. How cliche." But . . . nope, you're right.
My next project is a baby hat, and after getting overwhelmed by the pattern speak, I decided to start with the flower for the hat. I figured if I totally botched it I wouldn't be wasting as much yarn. I mean who decided that crochet patterns could only consist of two letter abbreviations?! Anyway, above is what I think it's supposed to look like. Below is my first attempt, which I think still looks cool, but I totally missed some of the ch-3 sp that I was supposed to sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc in. That's right, I now know how to do single, double and half double crochet. Maybe this yarn stuff isn't so bad after all!
WHAAAAA!!!! You Rock! That is amazing! The flowers are hard. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI love crochetting! There are many MANY free patterns online -for anything you can think of :) My next crochet project is going to be Christmas Stockings. A monthly learn to crochet group is a great idea. Sounds like you're living in a great place!
ReplyDeleteI am loving it! The hat I'm working on is a free pattern I found online. We need Christmas stockings, too, maybe I should do that next. I just wish yarn was cheaper!
DeleteThe flowers are totally cute! The tiny little potholder is cute too! Yeah, you sound like you are having a great time!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! While I can somewhat knit, I can't crochet for the life of me, so bravo to you!!! Keep up the great work. Wish you lived closer. :) Love, Karen
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think the pattern for the potholder is cute! the diagonal is fun! And that flower looks awesome! If you could send me the link to those patterns I would love it! And if you ever get into knitting I have fun washcloth patterns that have a butterfly or a frog or tons of other things that are knit into them, I also have fun bibs to knit if you want to try that avenue! Miss you guys, but glad that you're having such a great time!~
ReplyDeleteIf I start knitting, too, I'll never get anything else done! But I would love to learn knitting someday. The potholder wasn't meant to be stripey, but we got confused and did slip stitches instead of single crochet and that takes forever, so I switched to single part way through and then went back for a few rounds to make it look like it was planned. Here's the pattern:
