January in Hawaii!

We took our annual trip to Tutu's house in the middle of January this year. It was a great way to start the year, and avoid the winter cold for a couple weeks. :)

Our two 6 hours flights went by quickly thanks to Netflix downloads, and after a good night's sleep, the kids couldn't wait to jump in the pool.

After a day relaxing at home with family, we started out our week with a trip to Iolani palace.

We got treated to a lot of amazing food with family throughout our trip.

And we took advantage of the perfect 80 degree weather, to do some new hikes and trails.

And also enjoyed our old favorites, like Kahala beach.

While the kids and I relaxed at home, Drew did a few extra hikes. He took us on part of the Kuliouou ridge trail one afternoon, and then went back another day to do the full hike on his own. The trail was nice and the views were stellar.

We rewarded ourselves with shave ice at Waiola- the kids' fave.

And no visit to Hawaii would be complete without some time spent walking Kahala mall and playing at the Fun Factory.

Henry enjoyed eating papaya and oatmeal for breakfast with Grandma. And the kids both enjoyed sitting outside under the plumeria tree with her in the evenings.

One of our new adventures this year was a trip to the North Shore- where we got to see a sea turtle at Laniakea beach, eat at Ted's Bakery, and visit the Polynesian cultural center.

The kids really loved all the shows and activities. Lily got chosen to be the special guest for the first show we went to in Tonga, which was a highlight of her day. She was given a special woven headband, adorned with beautiful red and yellow hibiscus flowers that she wore the rest of the day with pride.

Meanwhile, the boys got some cool tattoos in Aotearoa.

We enjoyed a delicious luau dinner, before the big evening show.

I got to go out on dates with these two. :)

And we had a great time hiking at Makapu'u.

I got to celebrate my 34th birthday in Hawaii, and was super spoiled- first with a fun dinner and Chinese New Year Lion Dance Saturday night at Side Street Inn, and then with Sunday morning brunch at Duke's on Waikiki.

My gift to myself was a new haircut, and thanks to a friend's recommendation I found the best stylist just 5 minutes from my Grandma's house. Unfortunately, it will be a little difficult to come back in a couple months when I need a trim . . .

For our final day, we took the kids to Hanauma bay for one last beach trip.
It's always hard to say goodbye to this beautiful place.

Aloha Hawaii, A hui hou!
