January 2024: Ice Ice Baby

We started out the year with a hike to our lovely little Woodburn falls. We also began preparing for big changes and another move, as Drew accepted and started a new job in Seattle. It has been a hard few months of adjustment for all of us, since we had grown to love our little Camas so much during our time there.
Drew moved up to an Airbnb and started his new job the second week in January, and we wrestled with how soon to move the kids and I up, but ultimately decided that sooner would be better, and made preparations to move in February, rather than waiting until the end of the school year.

The January Camas First Friday featured an art exhibit by the wonderful Anna Norris, who I was lucky enough to get to know during our weekly Friday morning pottery sessions.

Henry continued his basketball season and participated in his school's book bowl.

Lily made a fun cake.

Up in Seattle, Drew toured rentals, and I did a video tour one evening of the little house we ultimately decided to rent. It all felt a little surreal.

Drew had planned to take the train back and forth for the weekends, but that ended up being a whole ordeal because Amtrak was terribly unreliable, especially in the midst of some crazy winter ice storms.

The kids and I were stuck in the house for days waiting for ice to melt so we could safely leave. When I finally made it out to pick up Drew at the train station one evening, the whole town was quiet and covered in ice.

The woods were a mess for weeks after the storms, with many fallen trees and much debris covering the trails.

Quite the January, but despite it all, time marched ever onward, and I turned 38.
