Since we're very pro-science around here, we decided to conduct an experiment! Lilly and I had been talking about chickens earlier in the week, so we thought it would be fun to try dissolving an egg shell using vinegar. According to our resident scientist, this works because vinegar reacts well with calcium helping it break down the calcium carbonate shell, while still leaving the inner membrane intact. Or something like that. I just wanted to bounce an egg.

Day 3:
Squishy egg!
Bouncy Egg!
It was surprisingly tough, but we found it's limit right. about. here.
(Insert picture of Lilly screaming because she just got egg splashed in her face.)
I didn't know you had a blog!!! Lilly is BEAUTIFUL! I'll have to do the egg experiment with my boys they would love it!
ReplyDeleteCool experiment, but you need to do it again and take it one step further... you put the egg with the shell removed in a cup of water for a couple days and then teach about osmosis...
