April: Spring Break and a Snow Day

In April, we got to see my parents during the kids' Spring Break week. Drew had to be in Portugal for a work conference the same week, so they came to help out on the days I had to work. It was great having them here, and we all had a great time playing at home, going to OMSI, hiking Latourell Falls, visiting local parks, trails and eateries, etc.

The kids had so much fun over Spring Break that they were begging for one more day off from school over the weekend, and boy did they get their wish! The Monday they were scheduled to go back we got a crazy amount of snow, and they ended up having a snow day! They both threw on snow pants and headed outside to build snowmen as soon as they woke up. And as I didn't have to work that day, it was a perfect cozy day to sit by a fire and watch movies and drink hot cocoa. A strange end to a Spring Break, but definitely an exciting one!

Backing things up a little to the beginning of April, Drew, Henry and I went to Camas First Friday for the grand opening of Natalia's Malt shop, and also picked up an April Fools day cupcake from Cake Happy. Lily opted to hang out with her friends instead, as they had planned a pizza and D&D night. :)
We love our cute little Downtown Camas and all of its community events.

We finally got around to visiting OMSI in Portland while my parents were here.
It was a perfect adventure for a rainy day.

We also hiked the beautiful Latourell Falls loop trail on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. There is an upper and lower falls that you can basically walk right up to, and at around 2 miles it's a good length hike for kids.

We felt we earned some ice cream after our hike, so we stopped by Salt and Straw on the way home.

And here's some proof that it felt like Spring during Spring Break, even though Winter decided to return the next week for one last hurrah.

After a week of snow, sleet, hail and rain, the weather remembered it was actually Spring just in time for Easter.
We tried a new method for dying eggs involving shaving cream and food dye, and it was a super enjoyable process, even though the eggs sort of only held onto the pinks and purples and all ended up looking the same.

We also did a quick Easter egg scavenger hunt to find our Easter baskets.

And then we headed to Crown Park for the Camas easter egg hunt. Henry was extremally nervous about being around so many people, to the point of panic, but he still managed to overcome his fear and participate. It's moments like these that I realize just how much this pandemic has affected all of us. It's going to be something we are continuing to process for a long while. And like any trauma or grief, it tends to present itself at odd and unexpected times.

Henry's Spring soccer season kicked off in April, and he was excited to have a couple friends from last season on his team. He also continued his drum lessons.

Henry and Drew went to a movie at Liberty Theater with some of Henry's friends one night, so Lily and I went to the Malt Shop together to share a sundae.

And of course I'm still playing with clay. :)
I rented a wheel for a month to see if I could make it work in my garage, and ended up purchasing my very own wheel a couple weeks later.
It's nice to be able to throw and trim and carve and reclaim clay at home, but I wouldn't miss my Friday mornings at the studio where I still go to glaze and fire my work. I love hanging out and talking with the awesome group of ladies that come on Friday mornings for what we have deemed our clay therapy group. It's honestly the best.
