June: Last day of school and a Berbert Family Reunion

In June we wrapped up Henry's Kindergarten year at NIST, and Lilly's 2nd grade year at Diamond Elementary. Henry has learned and grown so much this year and is so ready to head to Diamond with Lilly next year!

Lilly finished out the school year with a fun poster presentation where she learned about and dressed up like Jane Goodall. She even got to meet the real Ms. Goodall on a video call during the school year!

SO proud of these two big kids of mine.
Somehow they just keep getting bigger, and I can't make it stop!

End of school year pizza party with the neighborhood gang:

Henry enjoyed playing baseball again this Spring. He has a really good arm, and bats well.
He also always picked the pink helmet. :)
He was happy to have his little buddy Mark from NIST on his team.

Some other random happenings from June that I'm too lazy to narrate:

Also, a sinkhole opened up in the street by our house!

Just after school finished, we headed to Glenwood Springs, Colorado for our first adventure of the summer:
The Berbert Family Reunion!

We had an amazing time, and I absolutely fell in love with Colorado. We had a heated pool and large hot tub at our motel, that the kids really enjoyed in between all of our other fun itinerary items.

For our first day, we all headed up to Glenwood Caverns Adventure park and had a blast riding the alpine roller coaster, zipline, swings, etc. Lilly surprised us with her bravery, I think she rode all the rides she was tall enough to ride, including a fairly intense roller coaster. We also did a cave tour with Grandpa Berbert, and played a round of laser tag.
And to finish off the day we got stuck on the tram ride down for almost an hour due to high wind conditions. We were swinging in midair on the side of a mountain, and Henry at one point had to pee in one of our Nalgene bottles. It was great family bonding! :)

It wasn't all just fun and games, mandatory pranks had to be carried out on the newlyweds.
TPing at this level requires hard work and dedication. ;)

When I finished this grueling work, I had to find Lilly and cousin Ingrid who had wandered off somewhere. I found them doing fairy hair with leaves and twigs by a random tree, and had to escort them back to the fire with the rest of the family, where they continued their hair styling.

Breakfast in the main lobby was included, and came with endless belgian waffles and coffee creamers to stack.

For day 2 we braved wet and rainy conditions to hike to Hanging Lake, and I'm so glad we didn't chicken out. Lilly hiked the whole way, and the scenery was gorgeous.

We had a picnic lunch at the lake before heading back down. Daniel helped keep Henry distracted and moving by singing nonstop musical songs on request.

That night we had our traditional "midnight donuts", swearing in of new family members, and lots of fun and games.

On our final day we went to the Glenwood hot springs to soak and relax. We also walked to main street to get ice cream in the afternoon.

For dinner we all met up at a local church building for our traditional family dinner and talent show. Drew and I had to head to the airport right after dinner, so regrettably had to miss the talent show this time.

I shed a few tears after leaving the kids behind, but enjoyed the beautiful drive through the mountains- through rain, sun, snow and back again.

Yes, you heard that right, it was still snowing in June! Oh, and also we left our kids behind. We had to head back to work, but the kids got to drive to Utah with their Berbert grandparents for almost two weeks of summer fun. It was the longest we had ever been apart.
Drew and I tried to ease the pain by going out for some extra date nights, and took a weekend drive up to Gettysburg to watch a live taping of one of Drew's favorite podcasts, "Stuff you missed in history class."

The kids didn't miss us at all, they were having too much fun playing in the creek, getting spoiled by their grandparents and Aunty Michele, and whipping up lots of baked goods for the bake sale of their dreams. They also got to enjoy the 4th of July festivities and fireworks, before flying back home on their first solo plane ride!
