We Moved! After 5 1/2 wonderful years in Austin, TX, we packed up and headed out east for new adventures in Maryland. It went as smoothly as any move could, there were a few days of air mattresses and eating on the floor, but eventually boxes and beds and couches arrived. We unpacked quickly and could hardly wait to start exploring our new home.
Living near D.C. means having access to tons of free museums, a great mass transit system, and close proximity to major national events (like the Women's March on Washington!). We took full advantage of all of these opportunities during our first weeks in the DMV. The kids LOVED the Natural History Museum and the Air and Space, but they may have loved riding the giant escalator at the Bethesda Metro Station the most. I was thrilled to be a part of the massive movement of women and men who poured into D.C. the weekend following the presidential inauguration. And, we had our first visitor! Grammy drove down from Michigan for a weekend, so we took her to D.C. to explore the museums, capitol and botanical gardens.
Back home in Gaithersburg, Lilly started attending a new school, made an instant best friend, and became an experienced bus rider, practically overnight. We started seeking out some favorite new parks, and found a fabulous one on our first try. I found a new job and an in-home preschool for Henry. And Drew started his fellowship at NIST.
January was a month of BIG changes for all of us.
