July: The one with the Michigan reunion

In July we flew to visit our Michigan family, and it was so wonderful to see everyone! The kids LOVED playing with all their cousins, and we loved catching up with all of Drew's siblings and parents. We got to go canoeing, play yard games, boat and jet-ski, dip candles, hike, and visit the beloved Midland Tridge. Michigan is pretty amazing in the summer.

Earlier in July, we enjoyed a quiet 4th of July at home, tried out Pip's Doughnuts and Chai in Portland (delicious!), and enjoyed a fun Downtown Camas First Friday event where Lily got some hair flair that she was very pleased with.

After our Michigan trip, we enjoyed slow summer days with picnics in the yard, walks to the park and probably too much screen time. Henry watched a lot of Spongebob, and Lily drew a computer Spongebob for him which looked amazingly close to the real thing.

The yard had some beautiful surprises for us, and our planted garden started to grow, too.

Lily fell in love with hiking and learned most of the local trails by heart.
As an added bonus we found lots of wild berries to forage.

Henry became obsessed with soccer, and spent time practicing in the backyard everyday. He also has a thing for making colorful odd shaped pancakes and then eating them with a lot of whipped cream. Lily got super into coding.

Lily decided she wanted to dye the tips of her hair purple, so we went for it, bleach and all!

I continued my ceramics practice, and started to make some pieces that I felt proud of, but more than anything my love for the process grew and grew--all parts of it from throwing to trimming to glazing. It's so amazing to see what is basically dirt turn into a beautiful functional form.
