Lilly was watching an episode of Planet Earth a couple weeks ago, and when she saw the caves she got really excited about them. As she often does when she learns about a new place, she told me that she really wanted to go someday. Usually these requests are not easy to indulge, like going to Australia, Antarctica or the Moon, but this time, I thought, "hey, we could do that!"
There's a place called Inner Space Caverns just north of our house, and with that little nudge from Lilly, I started looking into it. We decided it would be a great Pre-Birthday outing for the two of us (especially since kids are free under four), and we headed there together on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It was so much fun! We both thought the cave was really cool, and Lilly was pretty excited about a giant mammoth by the gift shop. We definitely left with a new found sense of adventure, and a greater appreciation for this amazing home of ours called Earth.

I spy an itty bitty bat.

It was a wee bit humid in the cave.

These paintings (and the retaining wall) are modern additions, but bone remains of all of these animals have been found in the cave!
