On Wednesday we got to be tourists and check out some of Austin's well known sites! Our first stop was Mayfield Park, which is just a stone's throw from Mount Bonnell. They have some lovely gardens and lots of big, beautiful, and LOUD peacocks! Then we climbed the stairs to the top of Mount Bonnell, or Covert Park, to check out the great view of downtown Austin, and the lush green hills and river area west of the city (I also think I spotted my dream home just below us along the river). With the sun shining and a light breeze, it was a perfect day to be outside!
Then we jumped in the car and drove down the drag (street just west of U.T. campus), and checked out a cool graffiti art wall. I figured this was a good representation of the city's motto: Keep Austin Weird!
Our last stop was the State Capitol. The Texas Secretary of State was doing some kind of press conference outside, so we got free mini pecan pies! Then we made it through the capitol security and got to check out the amazing architectural details inside. It was beautiful right down to the door hinges! After a quick lunch at the Whole Foods flagship store (where they also have the only free covered 3 hour parking in town) we headed home happy and exhausted!
My parents may think they've seen all of Austin, but we didn't even touch the south side!
I guess we'll save that for their next visit!
